Who said 80s style metal is dead?

Hardline is a US hard rock band comprising Journey's legendary guitarist Neal Schon.

Here's their title track from their 2012 album Danger Zone.

Exciter's Oblivion

I have this habit. A song starts playing in my mind/brain, and on most occasions, I have to listen to it. Oliver Sacks must have an answer.

At this moment, I remember Exciter's song Oblivion from the Violence and Force album. The thing is you must listen to Oblivion and then the first full track, Violence and Force. It is a great combination and it is a great speed/thrash metal album.

Stephen Pearcy Interview

Interview with RATT frontman Stephen Pearcy

Saturday, March 07, 2009

I don't believe that heavy metal music as a genre is dead. It is true that it is not hip either to say that you are a hardcore metal fan.

I see no reason to smile when dudes say I like System of a Down, Limp Bizkitt, and Deftones. Because I do not think rock or rap music with over-distorted rhythm guitars are indeed metal bands.

There still thousands of heavy metal bands out there. The only thing is you have to discover them and become their fans. For me, there are 100s of 80s stuff I have not listened to. I still search for these bands. I also revisit bands I have not liked even after a couple of listenings and try to like them.

Presently, I like BlackTide, Airbourne, Dragongforce (at times I feel what they are trying to play), Stratovarius and so on. So be positive and never mind the FM radios and music channels. Metal is alive and kicking.

After a long time, I visited the Styx pub in Bangalore for a taste of heavy metal. The pub was totally empty and the music was Eagles and Dire Straits. I waited for the DJ to come in, and requested to play fast 80s stuff. And one of the videos he played was the following classic from WASP.

Back in the 90s, Forever Free was one of my favourites

Warrior Soul deserved better

Warrior Soul is an American hard rock and punk band formed in 1988 by lead singer Kory Clarke, guitarist John Ricco, bassist Pete McLanahan, and drummer Paul Ferguson (later replaced by Mark Evans and then Scott Dubois).

The band is at http://www.warriorsoul.info/

I like the song The Wasteland.

Stryper's Christian Heavy metal

Perhaps the only Christian metal band I liked. This was from Orange County, California, USA. Formed in 1983. To Hell with the Devil was the first and the last album I heard. I did not pursue the band after that. The album was really good.

Louder than Hell from Japan

Loudness is a Japanese heavy metal band formed in 1981 by guitarist Akira Takasaki and drummer Munetaka Higuchi.

Crazy Nights was the first song I heard from the band.

My favourite is the Soldier of Fortune, a song I heard first through BBC's Rock Salad programme.

Fifth Angel

Fifth Angel was a heavy metal band from Bellevue, Washington. Vocalist Ted Pilot, guitarist James Byrd, and drummer Ken Mary formed the group in late 1983.

Line-up is Ted Pilot - vocals
James Byrd - guitar (1984-1988)
Ken Mary - drums
Ed Archer - guitar
John Macko - bass
Kendall Bechtel - guitar (1988-1990)

Watch Fifth Angel at YouTube.
TNT was formed in the Norwegian city Trondheim in 1982, by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dag Ingebrigtsen, guitarist Ronni Lé Tekrø, bassist Steinar Eikum and drummer Morten "Diesel" Dahl. Read more about in Wikipedia.

Have you heard Badlands

Wikipedia says, "Badlands was a short-lived rock band founded by Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee and Black Sabbath members Ray Gillen and Eric Singer. Badlands also featured bassist Greg Chaisson. After the first Badlands album, Eric Singer was replaced by Jeff Martin. The group lasted from 1988 to 1992 and released two albums, Badlands (1989) and Voodoo Highway (1991) before Gillen's death in 1993 effectively ended the project. A posthumous release of the album Dusk (originally recorded in 1992-1993) was released in 1998.

I wanna rock with Twisted Sister

An excellent page on Twisted Sister that tells and shows it all. See the page.

Kingdom Come

When metal was degenerating into thrash and death, Kingdom Come paid tributes to masters like Led Zeppelin, by bringing out albums with melodic hard rock songs. Vocalist Lenny Wolf reminded us of Robert Plant, but the band was more predictable and less experimental than Zeppelin. They had some excellent sing-along songs that included some memorable ballads.

Everything about Ugly Kid Joe was good

The thing I liked about Ugly Kid Joe, apart from their in-your-face lyrics and screeching lead guitar solos, was the attitude. The band rocked into the hard rock scene when kids were going crazy over Nirvana. Vocalist Whitfield Crane was whacky in the black-and-white video of "'Everything About you", the first song I heard from the band. The band was amazing and I still love their grungy riffs and piercing solos in "Goddamn devil" and "Milkman's Son".

Ugly Kid Joe was not that ugly, but they were a great hard rocking stuff.

Britny Fox screamed and rocked real hard

Britny Fox is one of my permanent glam metal favourites. I was totally blown away by listening to their 1988 hit album "Britny Fox". The band currently has lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tommy Paris, lead guitarist Michael Kelly Smith, bassist Billy Childs, and drummer Johnny Dee.

My favourites include Long way to love, Girl's School, Over and out and others.

Aerosmith to rock Bangalore

I was a little late in putting this story up in my blog.

Come June 2 and hysteria will grip Bangalore city as music lovers congregate at the Palace Grounds to rock to the sound of Aerosmith, reports The Hindu.
